Cleft Palate and Speech is the seventh edition of a book originally written and published in 1945. The purpose has been to describe etiologies of defective speech due to cleft lip and palate and provide direction for treatment. Emphasis on cleft palate as a syndrome directs the attention of the reader from isolated observations to a multidisciplinary effort. Although the information provided may be of primary benefit to the speech pathologist, medical and paramedical team members may gain valuable insight into speech production and treatment of the cleft palate patient.
The information presented outlines embryology, anatomy, surgery, prosthetics, and speech development and treatment. In this recent publication, the author supplements previous editions in the areas of surgery, radiology, and orthodontia.
