To the Editor.
—I have read the article by Dr. Joachim Heermann et al, in the March issue entitled "Fascia and Cartilage Palisade Tympanoplasty."
I find the article difficult to understand. Do they try to create a satisfactory soundconducting system, etc, by using cartilage as a bridge which is then covered by fascia and then by canal skin that is left or a triple-layer sandwich graft? Only pictures of cartilage are given of many bridging structures. I can see the value of the latter, provided a nice tympanic membrane covers the lattices of cartilage.
Please clarify the "basic" overall concept of the article.
