To the Editor.

—After reading your editorial "Words Are Like Leaves," which was excellent, I was greatly disappointed at reading further on in the February 1970 issue of the ARCHIVES the article entitled "Hearing Loss and Otitis Media on Guam."

This is another example of a long series of articles that have been published by the Public Health Service and certain pediatricians in and out of government service on otitis media. This particular contribution speculates on all sorts of possible causes for otitis media among this particular group, including such outrageous things as the presence of Waardenburg's syndrome as a cause in one individual case!

What the writers of this article leave out is the very important correlation between the indications for the removal of tonsils and adenoids when ignored and the occurrence and repetition of attacks of suppurative otitis media and serous otitis media.
