RHINOPLASTY IN ADOLESCENCE

To the Editor.

—Dr. Bloom's subject, "Rhinoplasty in Adolescene," is an extremely important one to all of us who are interested in nasal surgery; and I agree with his conclusions that hump removal in rhinoplasty is best to postpone until age 16 to 18 in girls and 18 to 21 in boys.

However, I feel compelled to point out that after 30 years of arguing, this important subject has not really been answered by large series of carefully followed and photographically documented case reports. Jennes' ten-year follow-up cited by Dr. Bloom is to my knowledge, the only such study; and Dr. Bloom's own few cases, while interesting, need greater numbers and longer follow-up.

Until these questions are finally answered, the following concepts seem reasonable to me.

1. Short-term nasal trauma in childhood should be cared for by closed reduction of the fracture and drainage of hematomas, since absorption of cartilage . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
