ON April 21, 1969 Dr. A. C. Furstenberg experienced a subarachnoid hemorrhage. He died Oct 23, 1969, after being in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for six moths. This was the passing of one of the great titans in medicine and particularly in otorhinolaryngology. Dr. Furstenberg carried on three careers simultaneously over a period of many years. First and foremost he was a physician, graduating from the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, Mich, in 1915. He received special resident education under the guidance of Dr. Roy Bishop Canfield staying on with him until Dr. Canfield's death on May 12, 1932. His second career was that of teacher. He became Professor and Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, University of Michigan Medical School in 1932 and held this position until June 1956.
