THOUGH many reports on the histopathology of otosclerosis have appeared in the Western literature, there have been no such reports in the Japanese literature. It is probably due to the fact that the incidence of clinical otosclerosis in the Japanese is much less common than in the white race. In fact, clinical experience seems to indicate that the incidence of clinical otosclerosis would be about 0.25% of the patients with ear disease among the Japanese.

With the development of modern audiologic and microsurgical techniques, several clinical reports of otosclerosis have recently appeared in the Japanese medical literature.^1-3 However, none of these reports have included a histopathologic analysis of the temporal bones. This is the first case presented with a clinical, audiological, and histopathological analysis.
