A SURVEY of the literature shows hemangioendotheliosarcomas to be extremely rare tumors. They are especially rare when studies are confined to their occurrence in the larynx. This is a report of a case with wildly malignant disease and rapidly fatal outcome.

Review of Literature

Due to the irregular terminology and classification of these tumors in the literature, a systematic listing and analysis of the previously reported cases seems impossible. Therefore, certain highlights only will be noted.

In 1892 Bosworth¹ reviewed 46 cases of sarcoma of the larynx. The accuracy of the diagnosis is questionable in many instances.

In 1908 Mallory² first used the term hemangioendothelioma to describe a malignant vascular tumor placing responsibility for the aggressive growth on the endothelial cell.

In 1924 Yankauer³ reported an angiosarcoma growing as a pedunculated lesion on one vocal cord.
