This book was prepared upon the request of the Committee on Conservation of Hearing of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology to fill a gap which appeared to exist in the literature on this topic. The Committee recognized a need to provide a concise and comprehensive reference on audiometry for practicing otolaryngologists, residents in otolaryngology, and participants in the Academy Home Study Courses. The editor states that this book should also be a useful reference for audiologists, industrial physicians and nurses, pediatricians, and general practitioners, special education teachers, psychologists, safety engineers, school audiometrists, and hearing aid dealers; in other words, anyone who might use an audiometer. The editor is joined by ten other authors who have talents in the special areas encompassed by this book.
