To the Editor.—In a recent article in the ARCHIVES, "Chloramphenicol: Topical Application in the Middle Ear," (85: [June]1967) the following correction should be noted. Paragraph two, page 682 reads: "In many clinics and hospitals chloramphenicol is being applied in the middle ear, in powder form, both through perforations of the tympanic membrane and following modified or radical mastoidectomy.4,5"
Reference number 4 (Ausband, J.R., and Harrill, J.A.: The Local Use of Chloromycetin in Infected Ears, N Carolina Med J13:568, 1952) cited in this paragraph should be deleted. Dr. Ausband has kindly pointed out that his article clearly indicates that the chloramphenicol used was of a liquid form and not a powder as our manuscript suggests.
