PATHOLOGIC QUIZ CASE 1

In the course of a two-year, routine postoperative check-up of a 60-year-old man, two separate lesions of his palate were noted. There were no complaints concerning either. The smaller consisted of a red papular area approximately 5 mm in diameter on the right side of his soft palate near its junction with the hard palate. It bled slightly on manipulation. On the opposite side was noted a larger area of white mucosal thickening measuring approximately 1x2 cm, and half of which appeared more red and granular. Palate mobility was unimpaired. There were no nodes palpable in his neck.
Each lesion was biopsied and the right completely removed in so doing (Fig 1 and 2). (Fig 1 has a magnification of X 96 and Fig 2, X 90.)
