IT IS VERY gratifying to note that the caliber of applicants taking the Board examination is high and that most of them are superior candidates. Some of the applicants have been certified by the American Board of Surgery and many have had more than the one year of general surgical training required in otolaryngological residency programs. This additional basic surgical training in the residency program has been helpful, and general surgeons, for the most part, have been cooperative in making it a valuable experience. The majority of the otolaryngological residency positions will be filled this year, and a steady increase in the number of applicants has been noted. The Board has prepared a brochure which states the requirements of applicants who wish to take the Board examinations.
