This is a well-written, informative book dealing with the technical as well as practical aspects of eye, ear, nose and throat nursing and has been reviewed from only the otolaryngologic aspect for this journal.
Particularly good are the chapters on laryngectomy and tracheostomy. The authors bring out the importance of psychological preparation as well as give an excellent outline on postlaryngectomy care. One of the best sections ever written on tracheostomy care is included in this text.
The chapters on ear disease and otologic surgery explain clearly the differential diagnoses in a manner suitable for the benefit of the student nurse. Moreover, the indications for various types of ear operations are written in a most clear, concise manner.
Some aspects of this book bear more close scrutiny and warrant constructive criticism. It is doubtful whether the use of tap water and vinegar irrigations for chronic otitis media is standard treatment,
