Tinnitus, vibratory (intrinsic and extrinsic) and nonvibratory (peripheral and central), and some of the diseases and disorders associated with it are discussed; also discussed are the percentages in many types of ear conditions, variations found in deaf-blind, in adults, and in children, etiological factors, the close association of tinnitus with age, and the incidence of sludge. Tinnitus is compared with itching, and its modes of production and the hearing of beats with tonal tinnitus, monaural and binaural, are also discussed. Details of management and treatment and particularly the usefulness of certain anti-sludging and anti-spasmodic medications, and the importance of a careful history are set forth. . . .
