PROF S. H. Mygind has submitted a series of three articles propounding his personal theory of hearing for publication in the ARCHIVES OF OTOLARYNGOLOGY. Prof Merle Lawrence, eminent investigator of the mechanics of the middle ear and cochlea, has been invited to contribute a commentary to follow the third of Mygind's articles.
Professor Mygind, now 81 years of age, bridges in his professional life span at least three generations of research otologists: the oldest group now largely deceased which includes Gunnar Holmgren, A. DeKleyn, G. E. Shambaugh, Sr., MD, and our still very active and beloved Edmund Fowler, Sr.; a middle group which includes von Bekesy, Hallowell Davis, Anderson Hilding, William McNally, and C. S. Hallpike; and the youngest group which includes Merle Lawrence, Zwislocki, Hans Engstrom, Cesar Fernandez, and many others.
