The attendance at the recent Academy meeting in New York broke all records with a total registration of 9,739, including exhibitors, technicians, and residents. Of those who registered, 3,732 were Fellows of the Academy, representing nearly 50% of the total membership of this organization. This compares with 2,287 Fellows who registered at the previous year's meeting in Las Vegas, about 32% of the membership, and 2,913 Fellows registering in the last meeting held in Chicago in 1961, comprising 41% of the total membership.
The increasing size of the Academy meetings has created traffic congestion problems. To meet these the Palmer House in Chicago, the site of the 1964 Academy meeting on Oct 18 to 23, is installing Escalators on the first four floors. Changes in the sixth and seventh floors will not be completed until 1965. Meanwhile, the Academy has appointed an ad hoc committee to study the advisability of holding the Eye and the Ear, Nose, and Throat sections consecutively instead of concurrently. This committee report will be published in the Transactions of the Academy.
