To the Editor: In 1957, in the 133rd Supplement of the Acta Otolaryngologica in an article entitled "Ablation Therapy in the Management of Meniere's Disease" I described the technique of "trans-tympanic labyrinthotomy" and, at that time, I was under the impression that this was a new approach for the destruction of the inner ear for patients with unilateral incapacitating Meniere's disease.

Last week, Dr. Moses Lurie brought to my attention a very interesting publication by Dr. Eugene A. Crockett entitled "Removal of the Stapes for Relief of Auditory Vertigo" which appeared in the Annals of Otology, Rhinology, and Laryngology, vol 12, March, 1903. As you probably know, Dr. Crockett was Lecompte Professor of Otology and Chief of Otolaryngology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary from 1918 to 1924.
