Report of Treatment with Systemic and Intralaryngeal Injection of Hydrocortisone

Primary amyloidosis of the larynx is an uncommon pathologic condition. Dillon and Evans¹ reported only 3 cases of this disease in 4,551 autopsies carried out at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital between 1913 and 1941. None of the cases involved the larynx. In more recent years reports of primary amyloidosis of the larynx have been more frequent. In 1949 Kreissl, Muirhead, and Darrough² reported 5 cases seen in a period of 24 months in a surgical pathology service. In 1953, McCall and Fisher³ reported on 4 cases seen over a 3-year period, and Figi and Berman⁴ reported on 9 cases from the surgical files of the Mayo Clinic from 1949 through 1955.

At Walter Reed General Hospital, a review of the clinical records, as well as the histologic sections from 1940 to the present time revealed a total of only 4 cases of primary amyloidosis of the . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
