The purpose of this paper is to present again the value of dacryocystorhinostomy by the external approach. During recent years there has been a trend by otolaryngologists to perform this operation by an intranasal or an intranasal plus transeptal approach. Various advantages of these techniques and disadvantages of the external operation have been advocated. However, this external operation has proven so simple and has given such happy results that I should like to describe again the technique and results. The various symptoms, diagnostic tests, indications for surgery, and the pathological findings have been well told in the literature, so no mention of these will be made.
