ACCORDING to Medwick, Uihlein, and Hallberg,¹ "cerebellar abscess is apparently a rare complication of otitis media." They reported only six cases found at the Mayo Clinic over a 10-yr. period. They also noted that Asherson,² in a review of the English literature in 1948, found only 41 cases of abscess of the cerebellar lobe secondary to chronic or acute otorrhea.

On the other hand, cases of proved brain abscess in any location due to Bacillus proteus are reported as rarely in the literature as abscess due to otitis media, although it appears to be the belief of some pathologists long in the field that this infectious agent has been recognized far oftener than reported.³ T.
