This book is dedicated to Dr. H. P. Mosher, of Boston, who has so often and for so long set the pace for teaching subjects on the ear, nose and throat. The names of his associates—Connor, Hilding, Hilger, Hochfilzer, Holmberg, Phelps, Priest and Tangen—are mentioned on the title page. Each of them has taken a special chapter for his province and has told the beginner nearly all he needs to know.
Some items suffer from being too sketchy. For example, furunculosis of the external auditory canal is allotted less than one page, and the treatment for it less than ten lines. Since this is a condition commonly seen by the general practitioner and is sometimes as important to the patient as is an impending mastoiditis (for which it may be mistaken), it is insufficiently discussed.
