In 1937 a sum of money was subscribed in memory of Miss Coralie N. Kenfield of San Francisco, a teacher who was known throughout the United States for her high ideals and advanced methods of teaching lip reading. This money was placed in the Kenfield Memorial Fund. The interest provides a scholarship known as the Coralie Noyes Kenfield scholarship for Teachers' Training Courses for Teachers of Hard of Hearing Adults. (The scholarship offered in 1948 is $100.) The American Hearing Society is the trustee of the Kenfield Memorial Fund.

Applications will be considered from any hard of hearing teacher who is preparing to teach lip reading to hard of hearing adults and who lives in the United States and can meet the following requirements:

1. Personal characteristics necessary for successful teaching.
   
2. Ability to read lips as certified on examination by an approved instructor in lip reading.
   
3. A bachelor's degree; or two years
