The following has been prepared as a plan of procedure and explanation of technic in the use of the Arrowsmith-Sluder tonsillectome, as it is employed at the Kings County Hospital. These instructions have been used for members of the house staff for the past few years, and have been found satisfactory. The technic here outlined can be followed with any type of guillotine or fenestrated tonsillectome which comprise those of Sluder and their modifications.

It is conceded that the position of the patient, the type of mouth gag, the illumination and the type of tonsillectome may be left to the individual operator.

To obtain exposure of the tonsil in its entirety, and especially to avoid missing the lower pole of the tonsil, the tongue depressor is introduced so as depress the side of the tongue at its juncture with the anterior pillar.
