There are so many aspects to the story of radium as a therapeutic agent in cases of carcinoma of the larynx that I find it difficult to array the items in their logical sequence. And yet it was my purpose in preparing this paper to set forth the evidence as I have found it in twenty years' observation, hoping thereby to crystallize such conclusions as mature deliberation might evolve. It is not an easy task, because the mystery and glamour which surrounded this element from the time of its discovery still seem to captivate the imagination of both physicians and the public to a degree that is incompatible with the exercise of cool judgment. The hope which it inspired in the human breast, that at last the dreadful scourge of cancer was to be lifted through this powerful agent, was too thrilling to be easily abandoned or even modified by . . .
