ADENOCARCINOMA ARISING FROM THE MUCOUS GLANDS OF THE PALATE WITH PULMONARY METASTASES

The purpose of this report is to present a case of true adenocarcinoma of the palate originating in the mucous glands with metastases to the regional lymph nodes and the lungs. The term "true" is used in order to differentiate this tumor from the several tumors which have been reported in the literature as adenocarcinoma by Ribbert,1 Boenninghaus,2 Coenen3 and others. The latter neoplasms were designated by these authors as adenocarcinomas, although clinically and histologically they fall into the controversial group of relatively benign tumors more commonly referred to by others as cylindromas. These authors stated the belief that the tumors were really epithelial, as first suggested by Ribbert.
