In recent years the literature has recorded and many physicians have observed remarkable recoveries from intensive infection with Streptococcus haemolyticus. A great deal of credit for these cures has been attributed to sulfanilamide, and justly so. In this report, a case of positive meningitis caused by Str. haemolyticus superimposed on acute mastoiditis due to Str. haemolyticus, both originating from acute otitis media, in which treatment was successful is detailed. That sulfanilamide played an important role in this cure will be borne out by the following facts.
REPORT OF A CASE
On Jan. 19, 1938, the patient, R. A., aged 7 years, was admitted to the ear, nose and throat service of Dr. Francis W. White, at the French Hospital.
