Although thrombopenic purpura has been reported as a complication of other diseases, such as varicella and rubella,1 in reviewing the literature of the past thirty years we have not found a case on record similar to the one we are about to report.
REPORT OF A CASE
History.—A boy 7 years of age was admitted to the hospital on May 27, 1935, suffering from acute pain in his right ear, profuse aural discharge and a temperature of 102 F. Seven days prior to admission the child had a rash over his entire body, which lasted only one day. The family physician was called and made a diagnosis of rubella. Twenty-four hours later the child began to complain of pain in the right ear and the temperature mounted to 104 F. A diagnosis of purulent otitis media was made, and the tympanum was incised.
