In reviewing the literature for 1934 and 1935 on the subject of the tonsils and adenoids, I selected only those papers which promote discussion and which, according to my judgment, show the advances made in this particular field of otolaryngology. Several interesting and instructive papers deal with the anatomy of the tonsils and of the peritonsillar region. The latter is especially important from the standpoint of complications. Further speculations regarding the functions of the tonsils have been advanced. Further contributions to the bacteriology and pathology of the tonsils add to the knowledge of these phases of the subject. A number of diagnostic problems with special reference to chronic tonsillitis and to diseases of the lymphatic system have also been presented.
