DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT BY DISPLACEMENT

The displacement method of diagnosing and treating diseases of the sinuses, as described by Dr. Proetz of St. Louis, was begun at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in September, 1931, at the request of Dr. Mosher and through the cooperation of Dr. Macmillan and the roentgenologic department. A total of ninety-three patients were studied. The preliminary diagnoses are given in table 1. In fifty-six cases routine roentgen examination showed a thickened lining membrane, and in sixteen there was also retained secretion or pus. Thirteen patients with atrophic rhinitis were treated, and in eight cases preliminary roentgenograms showed no pathologic condition of the sinuses.
