A set of three blunt cannulas and two trocars is presented for use in entering the maxillary sinus through the middle meatus.

The blunt cannulas are presented as modifications of the original Pierce cannula and are for the purpose of entering the antrum through its natural opening. The cannulas were so designed as a result of an anatomic study of the maxillary ostium and its relationships in 114 lateral nasal walls. The cannulas are so curved at Cannulas and trocars. their distal end that they can be readily introduced into a horizontally or obliquely placed ostium such as frequently exists in the infundibulum.

The cannulas are made in three sizes. The medium size is the one that is used most frequently. The largest of the three is used when the rhinologist has ascertained that he is dealing with an ostium of a larger size which will readily permit the larger . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
