For about two years I have been using with considerable success free iodine solution derived from sodium iodide in the treatment of patients with hyperesthetic rhinitis. I have followed the method recommended by Sternberg and Sugar,¹ who reported favorable results in acute and chronic nasal discharges and in hyperesthetic rhinitis from the use of the halogens in free solution. The technic with iodine is as follows: A 3 per cent solution of sodium iodide is prepared, sterilized and allowed to stand several days in a white glass stoppered bottle until free iodine appears. One cubic centimeter of this solution is injected hypodermically. There is sometimes a temporary exacerbation of the symptoms. The injection is not repeated until after five days. After the solution has stood for several weeks, its injection becomes painful because there is too much free iodine, which is also shown by the increasing yellow coloration. The . . .
