At the 97th annual meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery held in Minneapolis, Minn, in October 1993, most of the discussion in regard to pediatric otolaryngology focused on sinusitis and sinus surgery in children. One of the features of the meeting included a session entitled "Great Debates in Otolaryngology." This discussion reviewed some of the controversies in the treatment of sinusitis in children. In addition, the pediatric otolaryngology committee presented a panel discussion on a similar topic. Below are summaries of these sessions. It is evident that there are still many questions to be answered in the treatment of sinusitis in children. At this point, our knowledge is still evolving and, as more empiric data are published, many of these questions will, hopefully, be answered.
