Each talk was presented in the order given.
These meetings were held from April 20 through 22, 1993, at the Combined Otolaryngologic Society Meetings, Century Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles, Calif.
Authors from two medical centers reported on functional endoscopic sinus surgery in preschool-age children. Charles M. Boyer, MD, and Robin Cotton, MD, Cincinnati Ohio, described a series of 78 children who underwent functional endoscopic sinus surgery. They concluded that functional endoscopic sinus surgery is safe and effective in preschool-age children; however, recurrent symptoms are common. Seth Pransky, MD, and Edward Wood, MD, San Diego, Calif, presented a series of 59 children who underwent endoscopic procedures. Their parents reported improvement in over 80% of the patients. There were only minor complications in four children.
Richard Rosenfeld, MD, Brooklyn, NY, presented an outcomes study on pediatric rhinosinusitis. He suggests that additional antibiotics and adenoidectomy compares favorably with endoscopic ethmoidectomy in the treatment
