The following report is from the Southern Section Meeting of the Triologic Society held at the Boca Raton (Fla) Resort from January 13 through 17, 1993.

Sinus and Endoscopy Session

Adam C. Abram, MD, et al, Charlottesville, Va, reviewed 1200 functional endoscopic sinus procedures, five of which were complicated by classic toxic shock syndrome. The authors believe that toxic shock syndrome, after endoscopic sinus surgery, may be more prevalent than previously reported. They expressed the possibility that toxic shock syndrome may progress along a continuum from mild to classic. (1)

Allan B. Whitehouse, MD, et al, Augusta, Ga, suggest that an endoscopic hypophysectomy may provide advantages in visualization and tumor extirpation over the more traditional approaches. The authors presented anatomic relationships that must be understood to perform an endoscopic approach to the pituitary fossa. (2)
