A critical review of frontal recess sinus surgery was discussed in an excellent panel led by Donald Lanza, MD, Philadelphia, Pa. Speaker Frederick Kuhn, MD, Augusta, Ga, carefully reviewed the anatomy as well as endoscopic surgical procedures and postoperative care of the frontal sinus with an emphasis on successfully clearing large cells that blocked the frontal recess. He introduced new endoscopic instruments designed to access this region with precision.

The Modified Lynch (Neel-Lake) external frontoethmoidectomy was reviewed for its applications by H. Bryan Neel III, MD, Rochester, Minn. His patient population was followed up for as long as 20 years, and he pointed out the key of limiting bone removal to the anterior floor of the frontal sinus, a portion of the lacrimal bone, and the bone over the anterior ethmoid cells. He reported an average of 80% success at 7 years' follow-up.
