Forty-seven scientific papers were presented at the Middle Section Meeting of the Triological Society held in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 25 and 26, 1992.

Richard D. Nichols, MD, and Barbara H. Jacobson, PhD, presented a paper discussing the functional and anatomic results obtained in 44 patients who underwent partial laryngectomy after radiation failure for laryngeal carcinoma. A video demonstration of voice and laryngeal function demonstrated exceptional results and no radiochondritis.

Kenneth Lee, MD, and Melvin Strauss, MD, reported that for all head and neck cancer sites and both sexes blacks were observed to be more than twice as likely to have cancer before the age of 50 years.

Michael W. Myers, MD, received the Middle Section Resident Prize for his paper, "Expression of the Major Mammalian Stress Protein in the Rat Cochles Following Transient Ischemia."
