Pathologic Quiz Case 1

A 12-year-old Mexican-American boy presented to the dermatology clinic with a supraclavicular mass. It had been present since he was 2 years of age and had increased in size as he grew older. In the previous few months, it had grown larger and had become painful. The patient took no medications, had an unremarkable medical history, and was without additional symptoms or complaints.

Physical examination revealed a firm, mildly tender, 2-to 3-cm lesion in the left supravicular fossa. There was no fixation of the mass to the underlying tissues, and it was felt to be located subcutaneously. The overlying epidermis was normal.

The lesion was surgically excised in toto. There were no complications.
