The Third International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer, held in San Francisco, Calif, in July 1992 was a tremendous success from every perspective. Our society owes a debt of gratitude to those who worked so diligently to organize the meeting and to attract such an outstanding international faculty.

The scientific presentations were a testimony to the robust and thriving community of basic scientists and clinical investigators who have devoted their lives to the goal of improved treatment outcomes for our patients. The personal and professional interaction with colleagues from other fields and other countries was valuable in terms of crossfertilization and new points of view.

The spirit of collegiality was broader and deeper than we have experienced before, and this spirit speaks well for the future of head and neck surgery.
