Is Canada's the best health care system in the world? The majority of Canadians believe that it is. The system was designed to provide equal access to medical and hospital services for all Canadians and to ensure that no one was financially ruined by illness. The plan may have fulfilled this role as nearly as it is possible to do so, but it is far from perfect.
I have practiced in Canada prior to and since the introduction of Medicare, and I also have practiced in the United States. Many of the problems one faces as a practicing otolaryngologist-head and neck surgeon are similar, particularly as the administrative bureaucracy in the United States catches, and in some ways, passes their Canadian counterpart.
