To the Editor.—It is somewhat intriguing to read a letter to the editor in one journal complaining about an article printed in another publication. Yet that is what George E. Shambaugh, Jr, has done in writing his letter in the October 1990 issue of the ARCHIVES concerning his continued use of sodium fluoride therapy for otosclerosis as a rebuttal to a commentary written by Drs Gail Kerr and Gary Hoffman¹ in the June 1989 issue of the Ear Nose Throat Journal. As Chief Editor of the Ear Nose Throat Journal, and the person responsible for the publication of the article by Kerr and Hoffman¹ in the Journal, I have chosen to respond to Dr Shambaugh's remarks, since a response is very much warranted.
