Beyond the 'New' TNM Classification

A single, global TNM classification system for staging laryngeal cancer now exists. This happened when the International Union Against Cancer published the document TNM Classification of Malignant Tumors in 1987, and the American Joint Committee on Cancer followed suit with the same system in 1988. This accomplishment is facilitating international efforts to conduct collaborative clinical research and is a reflection of the economic, political, and scientific shrinking of our globe. While some of our readers are aware of this development, others are not (news travels slowly when TNM systems are revised), so if you missed it, now you know.
