At the recent meeting of the American Laryngological, Rhinological, and Otological Society, Palm Beach, Fla, Edward Kantor, MD, George Berei, MD, Eric Partlow, and Margaret Paz-Partlow, Los Angeles, Calif, presented a new approach to microlaryngeal surgery. A specially designed laryngoscope for laryngeal surgery using a rigid endoscopic telescope with an attached video camera was demonstrated. The rigid endoscope was shown to provide better visualization of the anterior larynx. This system also eliminates the need to position the microscope with attached video to provide an accurate view. Using this system the authors demonstrated the ability to video document and perform surgical manipulation of the larynx by viewing the image on a high-resolution, large television monitor. Dr Kantor emphasized that this system allowed the surgeon easier access for instrumentation of the larynx.
