Blepharoplasty is the most common operation performed for rejuvenation of the upper aging face. A number of interesting articles on the subject were recently presented during the Fifth International Symposium of the American Association of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery held in Toronto, Canada, June 25 through 29, 1989.

Blepharoplasty of the Asian eye is a topic gaining increasing interest. Cosmetic surgery of the Asian upper eyelid has been done for quite some time throughout Asia and Hawaii, and interest appears to be growing in the mainland American Asian population. Dr John McCurdy (Honolulu, Hawaii) now has an excellent review of the subject available on videotape through the Association. He is quick to point out that operations are intended to beautify the Asian eye and rarely to "westernize" the eye, as only a few patients actually desire the large "double lids" or supratarsal folds of the Caucasian eye.
