I would like to begin my comments by expressing my deep appreciation to all of you who have contributed in so many ways to the American Society for Head and Neck Surgery during the past year. This is a vibrant, dynamic organization that is only now beginning to grow toward its true destiny. Our foundation is solid, and an exciting future lies before us. It has been an honor to serve as your president—I thank you all for entrusting me with this important responsibility.

I believe our society to be on the threshold of a very exciting period of expansion, and I believe that, in the same way, and for many of the same reasons, the field of head and neck oncology will make major strides in the next decade or two.
