In the North Carolina-Tennessee-Kentucky area, two new otolaryngology–head and neck surgery programs have been started. The program at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn, headed by Robert Ossoff, MD, is approved for resident training, and will welcome its first residents this fall. The program at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, will also start in the fall. We are proud of these new sections, since they will certainly further the otolaryngology–head and neck surgical contributions from these neighboring geographic areas.

The three programs in North Carolina (Bowman Gray, Winston-Salem; Duke University, Durham; and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) all continue to be active in the research and clinical aspects of head and neck surgery.

At Bowman Gray, joint studies in conjunction with the University of Texas at Dallas are underway to evaluate methotrexate levels in squamous cell carcinoma vs normal mucous membrane when methotrexate is given by various preoperative routes. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
