Reporting at the Eastern Section meeting of the Triological Society, Dr Chapin, Toronto, described an interesting new method to locate the precise site of obstruction in patients with obstructive sleep apnea. The technique uses a thin catheter to measure inspiratory airflow pressures at various levels of the airway during sleep. Of the ten patients studied, five were found to be obstructed at the level of the soft palate and five at the base of the tongue.
