American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Committee Report

The Academy's fellowship program has now been in operation for 16 years and has accredited 215 fellows. There are currently 32 preceptors throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. The majority of fellowship positions for 1988-1989 are filled, and more than a dozen applications have already been received for July 1989 and beyond. These figures attest to the increasing enthusiasm of residents in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery to pursue careers in facial plastic surgery.

In 1982, the Graduate Fellows Association was formed to foster the interchange of ideas among former fellows. Its first meeting saw 15 members gather for a business meeting in New Orleans. Now, several times this number meets for the scientific forums associated with the Academy's spring and fall meetings. The Graduate Fellows Association is currently studying ways to further support the Academy's Educational and Research Foundation.
