Incorporated in 1959 as the American Society for Head and Neck Surgery, the 11 founding members directed their efforts toward finding otolaryngologists, surgeons, and plastic surgeons dedicated to excellence in the practice, training, and research in head and neck oncology. During the ensuing years their efforts have been rewarded so that, today, we have a strong collegium of 615 fellows, mostly from the United States and Canada, but with representation throughout the world.
The Society meets once a year, usually with the combined otolaryngological meetings, or joint meetings with other formal societies interested in head and neck oncology. Members of the Society have participated in many programs for the American College of Surgeons, the British Academic Society meetings, the Japanese otolaryngological meetings, and others. This year, the Society is sponsoring the Second International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer on July 31 through Aug 5, 1988, at the Sheraton Hotel
