PATHOLOGIC QUIZ CASE 1

A 60-year-old man noted a painful mass on the left side of the neck and a mass on the right side of the parotid gland two years after he underwent a left parotidectomy for a Warthin's tumor. The right parotid mass gradually enlarged over one month and was not painful. The mass on the left side of the neck had been present for two months and was exquisitely tender to palpation. The patient could not wear a tie because any pressure on the neck mass resulted in severe pain. The patient denied any facial nerve weakness or any other symptoms related to the head and neck.
On physical examination there was a 1.5 x 1.5-cm soft, movable, rightsided preauricular/parotid gland mass. There also was a 1.5 x 1.0-cm tender mass located along the inferior
