At the recent Eastern Section Meeting of the Triological Society, the Dichotic Digit Test was described by Frank Musiek, PhD, of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Hanover, NH, as a screening tool to detect disorders of the central auditory nervous system producing symptoms of hearing loss. The purpose of such a test would be not only to detect unknown central auditory system disorders but also to measure the involvement of known central nervous system (CNS) lesions and monitor any changes in them.

To determine the efficacy of the Dichotic Digit Test, two groups were administered the test. The Dichotic Digit Test is a simple audiometric examination that can be performed in less than five minutes using standard audiometric equipment.
