Seven years have elapsed since the publication of the third edition of the Plastic Surgery volume of the Operative Surgery series, and the authors state that they have attempted to include most of the important surgical advances that have been accepted during that time. The target audience for this book is described as "the trainee plastic surgeon, or the surgeon in another specialty confronted with an unfamiliar reconstructive problem" as well as the trained plastic surgeon. The contents seem to measure up well in regard to the usual interests and needs of those who practice in this field.
The book is organized into four introductory general sections (basic technique, restoration of skin cover, lining of facial defects, and skeletal replacement), which are followed by 17 sections dealing with categories of techniques.
